Goodbye Mucus Juice (serves 2)

 

  • Fresh ginger root – a good inch or so (more if you like the zingy hotness from ginger). Ginger is anti-inflammatory and has enzymes that love to destroy mucus.
  • Pineapple – 1/3 fresh pineapple – leaving in the bromelain-rich centre of the fruit. Bromelain helps breakdown mucus.
  • Cucumber – 1/2 an average sized cucumber. These are cleansing, high in water and nutrients to assist with mucus removal and decrease inflammation.
  • Orange x 1 – fantastic for the immune system, rich in vitamin C. I leave the skin on, but peel if you prefer, but ensure you leave as much of the white pith under the skin on as possible, as this strengthens mast cells that release histamine. Increased histamine production leads to increased mucus production.
  • Apple x 1 – provides pectin fibre which helps remove mucus.
  • Carrot x 1 medium sized– a key provider of vitamin A – for the immune system and specifically for soothing and healing mucous membranes.

 

I recommend using a masticating juicer. However, any juicer will do the trick. (juicer, NOT a blender)

Quantities can be adjusted to taste, or increased if you are wanting to feed more than two people.

Ideally drink the juice immediately after making. If it needs to be stored – refrigerate in an airtight container for no longer than 24 hours.
